My birthday’s next week, so I’m going to use this post to take a look back at some of the ways I’ve celebrated my birthday in the past.
Last year, I celebrated with a night out downtown with Mike and some friends to see High Society (a cover band that does mostly hip-hop) at The Brick. On my actual birthday, Mike sent me an Edible Arrangement at work and took me out to dinner downtown when I got home.
My 24th birthday was the only one I had while living in my apartment in Philly. I actually got two full weekends of celebrating that year. The first weekend was spent in my hometown at a bar with my boyfriend and best friends. (Bonus: We met up with a friend who was also celebrating his birthday.. the more the merrier!)
The next weekend (my actual birthday fell on a Sunday that year, so it was my actual birthday weekend), a few of my girlfriends came over to hang out before going out in Manayunk. It was a really fun night (see the dancing pic below haha), buuuut I lost my coat check ticket and had to find a cab wearing a dress and tights, so I was sick and had no voice at all for the rest of the weekend. Mike came and took care of me the next day/night, but I still had no voice when my parents came to visit on Sunday.
2010 was my first birthday after college, so all of my friends from Rowan came and stayed at my parents’ house. We had a mini party (cupcakes, champagne, and lots of catching up) before going to my local bar. It was a completely different (read: much more fun) experience being there with all of them.
I turned 22 during my senior year of college. I could only find one even half-decent picture from the (really random) party we had at my friends’ apartment to celebrate.
The morning after the party, my then-boyfriend and I woke up and drove to Syracuse to spend the night at our friend’s house and go to the basketball game the next day with my parents. Tickets to that game were my birthday present from my parents that year.. one of the best presents ever!
Would you believe I don’t have a single picture from my 21st birthday? I was the first of my girlfriends to turn 21 (and on a weekday, no less), so after doing a couple shots of jager with my roommate, I went to the only bar in my college’s town with a few of my guy friends. It was a VERY low-key night. I did share a birthday party with one of those guys a couple weeks later.. slumber party style.
The last birthday I could find pics of for today is my 20th birthday, which I celebrated at JMU. One of my best friends there had a birthday a week after mine, so we combined and had a crazy birthday bash. Seven of us spent HOURS decorating our apartment – we covered two walls in birthday wrapping paper and two walls in colored tablecloths. There were balloon arches (prom style) over the two main doorways, and a “Wall of Shame” was created of some of my and Katie’s most ridiculous pictures. [Bonus: Friends from NJ traveled all the way down to Virginia to celebrate with me!]
I know it was long, but I really enjoyed my walk down memory lane today. I may have had a little too much fun messing around with my picture apps on my phone, but I mean, that’s what happens when you wake up HOURS before you actually need to.
What’s YOUR favorite birthday memory?

i just celebrated my 21st! Like you it was somewhat low-key because I’m one of the older ones of my friends. I definitely think it was one of the most fun though I’ve had! As a continuation of it a group of 10 of us are going to a hockey game then out to bars after so that should be really fun.
I’m so jealous you have seen an SU game! I’d love to see one
Oh man, I’ve been to sooo many SU games. My dad grew up in the town next to Syracuse and has had me watching games for as long as I can remember. Last season was the first season I didn’t go to any games
So jealous! Syracuse is only an hour and a half away from me but I never managed to go. I should really look into it.
Is the bar in the yunk Mad River perchance? I feel like I recognize the walls haha
Hahah, it sure is! I never had a truly good experience there, but we kept going back.
What a fun idea! I don’t really have a lot of crazy awesome birthday stories. I used to go skiing for the weekend with my family and would get to bring a friend. That was about as crazy as my life got haha last year I was flying home from florida on my birthday after spending spring break with my grandparents. What can I say? I’m a party animal
I did spring break at my grandma’s one year, too! Ended up spending just about the entire thing sick and laying on her couch because I caught some bug from my cousins. Super exciting haha.
I wish I took pictures more, however I never really celebrate my birthday. Sounds lame but it is true, my birthday is December 30 so we are always on school vacation
Ugh, yeah, that’d be a tough one to celebrate. I take pictures of everythinggg, so I was actually surprised at how few I had from a couple of my birthdays.
Awww how fun to go back and look at all your past birthdays!
It’s so fun to take a walk down memory lane once in awhile..totally necessary too! I don’t know what my favorite birthday memory would be…probably my 21st celebrating with college friends!
Happy almost birthday!
Thank you!
Wait, wait, what day is your actual birthday?? Mine is the 23rd
I would have to say my favorite bday memory was my 24th bday…the day I got married!
That’s when my birthday is, too!
